Facts About The Blue Footed Booby Dance
The most important factor in this fancy display is the color of their feet. Sure, they all have blue feet – but the richness of the blue color matters. Because this color is hard to produce, a rich blue is a sure indicator of a healthy bird.
Another component of this dance, is the gift of a piece of grass or a stick. And while they actually build their nests with this, it is somewhat of a symbol of the male’s ability to provide for their new family.
And lets not forget the somewhat crazy dance of the male booby. With high steps, wings brought forward and head tilted back, the male struts and flip-flops his way into the females heart. Surprisingly, this dance even continues after mating has taken place.
When the female accepts her mate, she begins to mirror his movements. Generally speaking, blue footed boobies mate for life.
