We are pleased to announce that Latin Roots Travel Co. has been awarded the Safe Travels Stamp by the WTTC by adopting safe travels global standardized protocols and guidelines outlined by the WTTC, the World Health Organization (WHO), the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and local authorities.
Standardized protocols include the implementation and improvement of health, sanitation, disinfection, distancing, and safety practices through our entire operation, so consumers can experience “Safe Travels”
Latin Roots Travel Co. partnered with the firm Up Control, an Ecuador based consulting company that specializes in implementing Quality Management Systems. We have gone through their Covid-19 Control certification process that guarantees the implementation of health and safety protocols to provide a smooth and safe tour operation.
We are constantly updating our protocols according to the latest health and safety recommendations.

General Safety Guidelines
OUR STAFF
- Our employees undergo training on new sanitizing and social distancing protocols, we keep them up to date with the latest recommendations.
- The use of masks and keeping the recommended social distancing (1.5 mt / 5ft) is mandatory in our offices and during the entire tour operation.
- We provide our staff with personal protection equipment which includes reusable fabric masks (3 layers) and face shields.
- Health status of our staff is reviewed periodically to protect and promote their health and safety and to protect our guests.
- We make sure hand sanitizer is always available for our staff and our guests.
- We have enhanced the disinfection and cleaning procedures of our facilities and vehicles.
- Keeping our employees and their families safe during the Covid-19 is one of our priorities, therefore for our office staff, we will continue the work from home model for the rest of 2020. When we feel it is safe to return, we will reopen our office taking all the necessary precautions and following the protocols issued by local authorities by the time of opening. Those who are vulnerable or belonging to a risk group will be strongly encouraged to continue working from home.
During our Operations
BEFORE YOUR TRIP
- We will keep you updated regarding local regulations, requirements, policies, and restrictions. Our staff is ready to answer any of your questions.
- You will receive in advance a detailed description of our protocols and Covid-19 preventive measures and recommendations that will apply during your trip, along with a short mandatory questionnaire that must be submitted back to us before your arrival.
- To offer you a high quality and safe travel experience, your itinerary has been designed prioritizing outdoors activities, avoiding crowded areas, and respecting recommended safety and hygiene protocols
- We know unexpected situations can arise any moment, we have flexible no change fees policy and rebooking options, so that you can have flexibility in making your travel plans
UPON ARRIVAL
- Our guides and drivers undergo training on the latest safety protocols. Following our implemented health and safety protocols are mandatory, which includes the use of mentioned personal protection equipment.
- For those with transfer services included, our staff will be waiting for you at a designated area at the airport carrying a welcome sign with your name on it. Signs and equipment are cleaned and disinfected before and after each use.
- As soon as you meet our staff, you will be offered hand sanitizing and will be conducted to the vehicle boarding area.
- Before boarding the vehicle, all luggage will be disinfected. Guests will be allowed to board the vehicle only with one personal item or carry on. Rest of luggage or equipment must be placed at the luggage compartment
- Guests and staff must disinfect their hands and shoes before boarding the vehicle.
- According to local protocols, all vehicle occupants must use a mask at all times.
- If arriving on your own, you will be contacted by our staff upon arrival at your hotel to provide you instructions about your next day activities and answer any of your questions.
DURING THE TRIP
- Health status of our staff and guests will be reviewed periodically to protect your health and safety and provide the adequate assistance if required.
- We make sure hand sanitizer is always available for our staff and our guests during the whole trip.
- We provide our staff with the appropriate personal protection equipment and disinfection supply. Equipment must be cleaned and disinfected before and after each use.
- We have designed our travel experiences to prioritize outdoors activities and include visits and meals mostly at open-air spaces. Visits to museums or churches will be pre-scheduled to avoid crowds, lines, and unnecessary contact. We will avoid any crowded area where recommended distancing is not possible
- At the beginning of the tour and when necessary, tour briefings will take place in order to update passengers on important information and procedures.
- Water, snacks, or box lunches delivered to guests will be previously disinfected and labeled as sanitized. Do not open or accept products without this label.
- For domestic and connecting flights, airport protocols will be followed strictly. Your guide will keep you informed.
- According to the current Ecuadorian health legislation, the use of mask always in public spaces is mandatory.
Our selection of hotels and restaurants
- Hotels and restaurants have been carefully selected after a verification process. Hotels and restaurants included on tour have implemented strict cleaning and disinfecting protocols. The protocols comply with The World Health Organization guidelines and local authority requirements.
- Cleaning and disinfection process have been enhanced. Meal service has been updated to minimize guest handling of food. Maximum capacity of establishments has been reduced according to limits established by local authorities to allow for social distancing.
- We strongly encourage our staff and guests to follow the protocols of each establishment as these have been implemented for your own safety.
Our vehicles
- All our fleet vehicles must follow strictly the protocols issued by the local transportation authority according to the guidelines issued by The World Health Organization. Protocol includes reducing the maximum capacity of passengers per vehicle to allow proper social distancing and enhancing cleaning and disinfection procedures.
- All vehicles will be cleaned and disinfected daily, before and after each activity. According to local authority protocols, all vehicles must display a cleaning and disinfection log.
- It is necessary to maintain proper ventilation inside the vehicle (windows open) while driving. Air conditioning or heating should not be used.
Before your departure
In order to verify compliance with our protocols and to measure our guest’s satisfaction, we will ask you to fill out a survey. Your answers will allow us to measure the success of our protocol implementation and improve the aspects that are necessary.
Our cleaning products
All cleaning, disinfecting and sanitizing products used along the tour, meet the criteria from the World Health Organization, the Center for Disease Control, and the Ecuadorian Public Health Agency (Arcsa) to eliminate the SARS-CoV-2 virus (Covid-19).
Staff has been trained to closely follow all instruction on the label (concentration, method of application, warnings, etc.) to ensure safe and effective product use.
